We believe in careful investment selection and, since our clients hold many of the same securities, we are able to keep a close eye on all our holdings. Our fixed income investments provide both current income and stability to a portfolio. Typically, they are short term - one to five years. We select our equities for longer-term growth. Our strategy with these holdings is to defer capital gains and maximize dividends. We have assembled a 'Buy and Hold' list, containing the companies that we have the discipline and patience to hold for long time periods. Though our equities are closely monitored, the stock is sold only if we believe that the company is faltering. Each client's portfolio is constructed in consultation with the client, based on discussions regarding their financial goals and investment style. Clients who wish to be involved in the selection of securities for their portfolio are consulted before each transaction. Others prefer that security selection is decided on a managed basis and in these cases the portfolios are managed by us in consultation with other professionals at BMO Nesbitt Burns.
