While many financial professionals prioritize accessibility for individuals with physical disabilities, accommodation for neurodivergent clients remains rare, despite laws that protect their legal rights.

At The Rigney Group, we recognize that every person is unique, and we all absorb information differently from one another. Jennifer Rigney has two young boys whose neurodivergent learning styles have given her greater awareness of the importance of advocating for people with sensitivities, even if they have not been diagnosed with neurodiversity.

Our team is on the forefront of supporting those who learn, function, or process information differently. We:

  • Adapt our environment to honour sensory differences; for example, noise-cancelling headphones, avoiding triggers and/or sensitivities.
  • Address ways that people absorb financial information differently. For example we may:
    • Hold shorter meetings to reduce information and detail overload
    • Conduct regular, pre-scheduled check-ins to review timelines and financial progress
    • Communicate in ways that address specific needs and preferences
    • Present information in a manner that aligns with each client’s unique processing style
    • Use structured templates and clear agendas
    • Offer to meet remotely via video with those who find in-person situations difficult
  • Avoid judgement or discrimination that can inhibit open communication. For example, we can share the same information repeatedly if that is how it is best absorbed.
  • Foster inclusive dialogue that addresses everyone's unique triggers and potential solutions
  • Support people with neurodivergent kinetic cognitive styles:
  • Encouraging movement breaks, flexible meeting locations, or walking meetings, if that is the best environment.
