I enjoy having discussions about investing with my clients’ sons and daughters. Financial literacy and personal finance basics are still not taught in our schools, not even university! In their 20s, we’ll talk about the basics of budgeting and savings, and the type of companies they are they interested in and whether they would be a good investment. I don’t direct them, I engage them and discover what they can identify with. At this stage, the rate of return is not the most important goal, it’s saving early to maximize the power of compounding.
Special attention for seniors
With exceptional sensitivity and patience, I enjoy giving special attention to my senior clients and help them build income-generating portfolios to see them through increasingly long retirement periods.
Having cared extensively for my 94-year-old mother through many difficulties, I have experience addressing the needs of older clients. Ask me for help with long-term care, taxation rules and strategies for seniors, and covering cash-flow needs to pay for health care. Senior clients have even asked me to book their Covid shots! I am proud of the trust that I build with this precious niche group.
If I notice a client in cognitive decline or becoming incapacitated, I will proactively take steps to alert their family so that we can help them get the proper Powers of Attorney and support networks in place.
