Erik Dekker, BBA (Econ), CIM

Senior Investment Advisor, Senior Portfolio Manager

Erik Dekker co-founded Dekker Hewett Labelle Wealth Advisory with Mark Hewett and has more than 25 years of experience in the investment industry.

Erik’s commitment to a career in finance began early in life. Growing up, his single mom was busy taking care of the family and holding down a job. With little time to look after her finances, she entrusted them to an advisor who slowly managed to lose every penny. To learn a better way to look after someone’s wealth, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Simon Fraser University with focus in Finance and Economics and joined Canaccord Capital in 1996.

Today, Erik has been recognized multiple times for his knowledge of investing, wealth planning and client-focused, goals-based wealth stewardship. In an increasingly dynamic environment, Erik simplifies wealth for his clients while forging industry relationships that bring them exclusive capital markets opportunities. Erik has completed the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM®) designation and also carries the Portfolio Manager designation.

Erik is an active contributor to the community. He has served on the board of The North Shore Hospice & Palliative Project since 2014 and supports Engineers In Action (EIA), which bridges the gap between poverty and resources. He helped raise $200K through the Chief Ernie Campbell Memorial Golf Tournament for the children of Musqueam Nation. Erik also supports Beer by the Pier, an annual event that raises critical funds to support the most vulnerable children and youth of the North Shore community.

Mark Hewett, PEng, FCSI

Senior Investment Advisor, Senior Portfolio Manager

Mark Hewett co-founded Dekker Hewett Labelle (DHL) Wealth Advisory in 2007. He has been a wealth manager since 1998. Mark is a specialist in the complexities of the transition into and through retirement. This involves an individually designed plan and a team of wealth professionals to facilitate every unique situation.

Mark earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from UBC in 1993 and his PEng in 1997. Prior to transitioning to investment management, he held key roles in leading energy and engineering consulting firms. Mark is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI®) – the highest designation within the Canadian investment industry. He also holds the Portfolio Manager (PM) and the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designations and the Certificate in Retirement Strategy from the Canadian Securities Institute.

While still a practicing professional engineer, Mark’s wife was an investment advisor and also an FCSI and CIM. Their discussions about how the industry could be better aligned with client financial goals through transparency, detailed discussions with each person, comprehensive planning and wealth stewardship, lead Mark to make a career shift that would utilize the engineering mind while fostering the personal relationships and outside the box thinking that are a hallmark of Mark’s practice. The rigorous planning discipline, analysis and collaboration he developed as an engineer has translated well to an advisory career. In addition to helping his clients preserve wealth, mitigate taxes, estate plan, and support charities strategically, Mark, along with his partners, have developed a dynamic team process to best facilitate the varied needs of his clients.

Mark resides in North Vancouver, BC with his wife Colleen. They have lived in North Vancouver most of their lives and have raised their two children, Mason and Elodie, there too. Mark actively supports his community through his time and family foundation in areas such as North Shore Family Services, Lookout Society, Harvest Project and DTES Neighbourhood House.
