Market and Portfolio Update

We have recently moved from the Yellow into the Green Zone in our Stoplight. The market had a decent run through January, but in February there was volatility and the signals had us raising cash in portfolios.  This week Markets have been showing the improvements we had been looking for to get invested.  Therefore, earlier today we began to move to fully invest the portfolios.

Completing Your 2022 Income Tax Return Checklist

The April 30 deadline for filing your Canadian personal income tax return– excluding self-employed individuals and their spouses or common-law partners – is Monday, May 1 (since April 30 falls on a Sunday).

With the tax deadline approaching, Completing Your 2022 Income Tax Return Checklist includes reminders to help you prepare to file your return and maximize your tax savings. Use this Checklist to help ensure that you have all required tax documents before you prepare your return, otherwise you will be required to file an amendment.

2022 Tax Document Mailing Schedule

  • T3 and T5013 tax slips will be mailed to BMO Nesbitt Burns clients by March 29, 2023.
  • T3 and T5013 tax slips will be available on Gateway by March 27, 2023.
  • Realized Gain/Loss reports will be available the last week of March – first week of April

This year, all T3 slips will be mailed out in a single mailing which will reduce any confusion when determining if all T3 slips have been received.

 

Claiming Home Office Expenses on Your 2022 Personal Income Tax Return

In late 2021, the Federal government announced that the simplified tax deduction for 2020, allowing employees to claim a flat rate for expenses incurred as a result of working from home due to COVID-19 (without the need to track detailed expenses), will be extended for the 2021 and 2022 tax years
