Randy Cannon, CPA, CA

Investment Advisor

I am a qualified CPA, CA with over 15 years' experience working in the accounting, finance and investment professions.  I am a graduate of UPEI and started my career here in Charlottetown with ArsenaultBestCameronEllis Chartered Accountants.  I worked on personal and corporate tax engagements as well as auditing companies in virtually every industry on PEI.  In 2010, I traded the cold Canadian winters for the beaches of the Cayman Islands and began working in the offshore financial industry. First working as an external auditor on hedge funds and later joining the leading fund governance firm in the industry as International Financial Controller, overseeing the finances of 10 subsidiary companies located across 6 countries.  My role expanded as the company grew and I gained valuable experience in international finance and investment regulations. In particular, I helped our firm obtain an AIFM license allowing our clients easier access into the European market.

While my career has followed a path serving clients in the corporate sector, my passion has always been helping people improve their personal financial situation. That desire to build strong personal relationships with clients, along with my view that the Canadian investment industry is improving to increase transparency and better align advisor and client goals, are the main reasons I transitioned to become an investment advisor.

My wife Emily is also a CPA, CA and is the Director of Finance and Accounting with Northumberland Ferries Limited.  In July 2017, we welcomed our first child, Lily Morgen, and in October 2019 our son Luke Douglas was born.  When not at the office or spending family time with Emily, Lily and Luke, I enjoy playing guitar, riding my motorcycle and playing sports, in particular, hockey, golf and curling.

Living away from PEI for 5 years and then returning home has really emphasized the great community aspect of living on PEI.  We try to be involved as often as possible and I am very proud to volunteer with the United Way of PEI (President of the board) and as a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Summerside (Vice President).  I have met many great people through these roles and see the positive impact non-profit organizations like these can have on our Island communities.
