Michael Dorfman, CFP, CIM
Senior Portfolio Manager & Investment Advisor
Michael Dorfman started his career in 1981 with a major financial institution in New York City, working with international high-net-worth clients. In 1987, he returned to Canada and established the Canadian operations of Ben & Jerry's, before joining BMO Nesbitt Burns (then Burns Fry) in 1992.
Michael is a Senior Portfolio Manager, and leads a wealth management team of ten professionals who oversee approximately $1.2 billion in assets under administration. His industry designations include the standard Securities, Options and Level II Insurance Licenses, Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), and Chartered Investment manager (CIM®). Michael received his B.A. in Economics from Brandeis University in 1981. As part of that degree, he did one year of studies in International Economics at the University of Geneva in Switzerland.
He resides in Toronto and has a son and a daughter, both young adults. Little-known personal facts about Michael: he speaks fluent French, passable Italian and weak Spanish. He enjoys cycling and golf in warm months, skiing and snowboarding in cold months, and travel and good wine during all months.
Johnathan Hostick, CIM, FEA
Johnathan Hostick has over 15 years of diverse financial services experience. Prior to joining BMO Nesbitt Burns in 2017, Johnathan spent 5 years working as a Wholesaler with Fidelity Investments Canada. He also spent time building and managing corporate pension plans, working at the CPP Investment Board in Private Equity, and helping to finance businesses as an Investment Banker.
Johnathan earned a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Finance and Economics from Trinity College at the University of Toronto. In addition to his Associate Portfolio Manager license, Johnathan holds his Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation. He is also a licensed Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) as well as Life Insurance Advisor with BMO Nesbitt Burns Financial Services Inc. Johnathan provides holistic wealth management for clients, focusing on portfolio management, tax minimalization strategies, and optimal account structure. In 2022, Johnathan was nominated in the Globe & Mail’s ‘Top 40 Under 40’, and named in their ‘Best in Province’ report.
Johnathan lives in Aurora with his wife Laura, daughters Isla & Maren and family dogs Emmett & Norah. While balancing his busy work and family life, Johnathan regularly competes in Ironman triathlons with his eye on one day competing in the World Championships in Hawaii! Johnathan & his family enjoy spending winters at their chalet at Devil’s Glen Ski, where Johnathan volunteers on the Board of Directors. Johnathan is also an avid golfer and member of The Summit Golf Club. Johnathan is passionate about serving his community, and volunteers his time and resources as a member of the Southlake Hospital Foundation's Philanthropy Cabinet.
Wealth Associate (Senior)
Milica has worked with Michael since she joined Nesbitt Burns in 1996. Milica holds an Economics degree from the University of Belgrade. Since then, she has successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course, Conduct and Practices Handbook Course, Professional Financial Planning Course, Wealth Management Techniques Course and Wealth Advisory Program. Milica spearheads the data gathering and preparation of our financial plans, executes clients orders and also handles portfolio advisory work involving fixed income and mutual fund securities. She is also responsible for senior service level work for our clients' more complex concerns (tax, estate and insurance planning), providing a liaison with our in-house specialists in the Wealth Planning Group. In her spare time, Milica enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and reading.
Business Associate (Senior)
Victoria began her career in the financial industry in 2010 and has been working with BMO Nesbitt Burns for over 6 years, including a previous role with The Dorfman Group from 2012 to 2017. She is a graduate from the Schulich School of Business where she earned her International Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a specialization in economics and finance. Victoria has successfully completed her Wealth Management Essentials, Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing, Canadian Securities Course, and Conduct and Practices Handbook. Within the team Victoria focuses on account administration and special projects to further enhance client service.
When outside of the office, Victoria likes to spend her time traveling, trying new foods and visiting family and friends.
Emily Halverson-Duncan, MFin., CFA
Associate Portfolio Manager
Emily began her career in the financial industry in 2014 and has worked in several roles across the industry, most recently consulting with advisors and institutions on their equity portfolios at Morningstar Research Inc. She also previously wrote a bi-weekly article for the Globe and Mail’s Number Cruncher section for the past several years.
She holds both her Canadian and US securities licenses, allowing her to provide advice and place trades for residents of both countries. Emily obtained her Bachelor of Honours Mathematics & Business Administration from the University of Waterloo, and has since successfully obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Designation and is a member of the CFA Toronto Society. Emily has also obtained her Master of Finance degree at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and was the recipient of the Master of Finance Director’s Award for academic excellence.
Emily lives in the east-end of Toronto with her partner Travis and their Great Dane Evie. Outside of the office, Emily enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family
Charlie joined The Dorfman Hostick Wealth Group in 2020, and has over 6 years of industry experience. As an Investment Associate, Charlie performs client reviews and investment proposals, while also leading our marketing initiatives. He previously worked at Canaccord Genuity and Stax Consulting.
Charlie attended the University of New Hampshire where he earned a degree in Business Administration with distinctions in Finance & Marketing. He was also the captain of the NCAA Division One Ski Team and a recipient of the Academic All American Award. Charlie has successfully completed his Canadian Securities and Conduct &Practices Handbook Courses.
Charlie resides in Leslieville with his wife, Brooke, and their dog, Luci. Charlie is passionate for the outdoors, and can be found skiing, mountain biking, surfing and golfing throughout Southern Ontario and New England. He supports his community through London’s St. Joseph’s Hike for Hospice and also volunteers as a Director on the Board of Devils Glen Country Club and the Jonny Kellock Foundation.
Phil has over 10 years of experience in the financial industry with 5 years at Franklin Templeton Investments where he was working with financial advisors and institutional alliances. Prior to joining the Dorfman Hostick Wealth Group in 2022, he was consulting with advisors and institutions on their equity portfolios at Morningstar Research Inc. He frequently wrote articles for the Globe and Mail while also filming videos on quantitative investment research for Morningstar.
Phil obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from the Toronto Metropolitan University and his Master of Finance from Queen’s University. He has completed the second level of the Chartered Financial Analyst program and is currently working towards his Chartered Investment Manager Designation.
Phil lives in the Toronto area with his partner Amy and their two Corgis Willow and Chandler. Phil is an aspiring World Championship Ironman Triathlete and has completed 10 marathons. He enjoys playing golf during the summer and traveling the world as much as possible.
Client Service Associate
Sid began his career in the financial industry with BMO in 2017, after obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph. He joined The Dorfman Group in 2021 and assists the team with account documentation, client transactions and daily administrative duties. Sid has successfully completed his Canadian Securities Course, and Conduct and Practices Handbook Course.
In his spare time, Sid participates in recreational volleyball (his favourite childhood sport). He also enjoys visiting the cottage, exploring the tastes of new restaurants, and going on long adventurous walks with his French bulldog, Ralphie.
Client Service Associate
Chantal began her career with BMO Nesbitt Burns in July 2011, later joining the Dorfman Hostick Wealth Group in February of 2022.
As an Investment Representative for the Dorfman Hostick Wealth Group, Chantal assists the team with exceptional client service ensuring account documentation, and other daily administration duties are processed seamlessly. Chantal has successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Conduct and Practices Handbook through the Canadian Securities Institute.
Outside the office, Chantal is committed to going to the gym. She lives for the active life and will probably recruit you to join in on a spin or hot yoga class. When the opportunity presents itself she loves traveling with her husband, visiting family, or catching up with friends over brunch and coffee.
Client Service Associate
Ashley joined The Dorfman Hostick Wealth Group in 2022, bringing ten years of client facing experience prior to the team.In her role as a Sales Assistant, she strives to provide excellent support to the team in the scope of client services from account documentation to various daily administration duties. Ashley has successfully completed her Canadian Securities Course and Conduct and Practices Handbook Course.
Ashley is a sports enthusiast. She loves working out with a group of friends at the gym, exploring winter sports and watching American football. On weekends, she enjoys spending time with her cat and dog as well as whipping up new recipes.
Administrative Assistant (not-licensed)
Joana began her career in the financial industry with BMO in 2020, later joining the Dorfman Hostick Wealth Group in April of 2023. Joana assists the team with daily administrative duties. As a new graduate of Centennial College's Office Administration & Legal Program, Joana is working towards completing her Canadian Securities Course, and Conduct and Practices Handbook Course. Joana is an animal lover and a car enthusiast. Outside of the office, you can either find her with animals or going for a drive around Ontario.
