Minuk's Musings and the Year of the Water Rabbit

Richard Minuk - Jan 20, 2023
Happy Lunar New Year!

Happy Lunar New Year!

It’s the year of the Water Rabbit.

A rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity in many Asian cultures and it is predicted that this will be a year of hope.

To have some fun (yes, this is my version of fun), I checked how the US stock market (S&P500) has performed in previous years of the Rabbit.

While past performance doesn’t indicate future returns, this gives me hope for a prosperous year

2011 = +2.1%

1999 = + 20.9%

1987 = + 5.8%

1975 = + 37%

1963 = +22.6%

1951 = + 23.7%
