James Cochrane, CFP

Investment Advisor

Nipigon, Ontario is a small town located in the Thunder Bay region of the province. I was born in a 4-room hospital in this town and raised in Thunder Bay. I graduated from Churchill High School before moving on to the University of Victoria to complete my Pre-Med degree. While studying at Lakehead University, I worked in the fishing and Pulp and Paper industry while completing my B. Science degree.

In October 1985, I started with Investors Group and became a manager in 1993 after completing my CFP certification. I also hosted local Cable T.V. shows for 6 years called “You’re Money Magazine”. In December 2001, I sold my business with Investors Group and traveled for a year before settling down in Thunder Bay again and restarting my career in Financial Services in 2004 with RBC. I was also a member of both the Selection Committee and Bursary Fund Committee for The NEW Northern Ontario School of Medicine. In 2009, I transferred with Bank of Montreal Nesbitt Burns from Thunder Bay to Dryden. From 2010-2016, I served as the Director, Treasurer, Chair & Past Chair of DDCC. In 2020, I became a CEA (Certified Executor Advisor). Consequently, my experience in the financial sector is vast and varied.

I have been married to my wife for over 30 years and we have 6 children and 11 grandchildren together, as well 1 cockapoo!
