What is a “Rich Life?”

Ahsan Khan - Sep 12, 2025

We all have only so many years to grow up, earn, raise our families, and hopefully retire for many years with good health. Everyone knows this but how deeply do we think about our limited time on the planet and its relationship to our money?

“I hope everybody could get rich and famous and will have everything they ever dreamed of, so they will know that it’s not the answer."

 —Jim Carrey

On retiring, Jim also said: “I have enough. I’ve done enough and I am enough.”

We all have only so many years to grow up, earn, raise our families, and hopefully retire for many years with good health.

Everyone knows this but how deeply do we think about our limited time on the planet and its relationship to our money?

Money is but a tool. That is my experience when I talk to most people. They have made sacrifices and gone without to save and invest but at some point, they desire a less hectic pace and want to enjoy the money they have with the health and time they have.

So, for the purpose of our question, what makes for a rich life? The answer is simple. To spend money in a way that gives you pleasure and to those with whom you value most.

Everyone is different in their joys and pursuits. There is no best life but there is a best life that is rich for you.

If you want to live life to the fullest regardless of the season of life that you are in, you may like to do the following 3 things:

  1. Brainstorm a list of 15 things that you enjoy doing that costs money.

  2. Think about how these things tie back to your values as a person. Some people value experiences and love to travel. Others value time and enjoy personal freedom to be busy or slow. While others value choices so they can do what they want, when they want and with whom they want.

  3. Schedule your list of things into your calendar. Some things you might do daily, and some might be on the old bucket list. Imagine yourself living life fully and with a richness of experience, purpose, and freedom to feel “rich” (wink).

Just keep in view that life is not a rehearsal so get going before the final curtain call. We all have our own version of a rich life and our job as your Wealth Advisors is to help you retire with enough money, without worry or concerns, so you can live your life to the fullest!
