James Nickerson, CFA, CMT

Portfolio Manager

Born and raised in Calgary, I’ve experienced firsthand the highs and lows of Alberta’s economic cycles, which sparked my interest in financial markets early on. My first deep dive into the world of investing came in Grade 7 during a school “stock” project—right in the thick of the dot-com bear market. Little did I know, that project would set the stage for my career.

I graduated from the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus with a degree in finance and have since earned both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designations. I’m also options licensed, using strategies to help clients enhance income and manage risk.

My career journey began at one of Canada’s big banks before I transitioned to a boutique brokerage. I then spent nearly nine years at one of Canada’s largest independent private wealth managers, where I focused on asset allocation for their western office. Each step has deepened my understanding of markets and strengthened my commitment to helping clients achieve their financial goals.

When I’m not analyzing markets, you’ll often find me on the golf course, skiing the slopes, or spending quality time with my family. I’m passionate about finding balance—both in life and in portfolios—and helping others do the same.
