Michael Lem is a Renaissance man. He did not grow up speaking Chinese, so he learned it as an adult. He also learned Portuguese. He also taught himself how to play guitar.


He is an exceptionally giving human being, including philanthropically, expecting nothing in return.

And yet he is truly humble. But when talking about him, we will not be. Michael, we are proud of you, and everything you do for everyone around you!

It is easy to see why Oscar Yu, CFA, CIM, as such a multifaceted person, is such an important member of Michael’s team. He too is multilingual, being fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. He is an avid golfer, an enthusiastic recreational basketball player, a long-distance runner – and an expectant father! Congratulations Oscar!

Sure, we use the word “philanthropy” a lot. But do we know what it really means?

Its etymology, I mean.

It comes from the ancient Greek. Philos means loving or fond of. Anthropos means human being, or mankind.

Literally, therefore, philanthropy means “love of mankind.”

How fitting a description for Michael Lem and Oscar Yu. Two people who constantly give and expect nothing in return.

Thank you, Michael and Oscar, for showing the way.
