James Goldberg, CFA, FCSI

Investment Advisor

For as long as he can remember, James has always had a keen interest in the stock market. For his 13th birthday, his parents helped him open his first investment account where he was able to buy his very first shares. From that moment on, he would try to grow his portfolio whenever he could with savings from summer jobs, holiday gifts from his grandparents, or simply reinvesting the dividend cheques he received in the mail. He didn't know it at the time, but his penchant for investing would eventually serve to become the foundation for a successful career in the financial services industry where he could use his expertise to positively impact the lives of others.

James is originally from Montreal but moved to Halifax to complete his studies at Dalhousie University. Upon graduation, he accepted an invitation to move to Toronto to learn from a large, established wealth management group at another one of Canada's “Big Five” banks. In 2013, he was offered an opportunity to join BMO Nesbitt Burns where he would go on to create The Goldberg Group, providing his clients his own differentiated approach to wealth management.

Today James and his team manage wealth for many successful families, corporations, trusts, and institutions across Canada. He provides unique and tailored advice and prides himself on his ability to make complex situations and concepts simple for clients. He is highly respected in the industry by both his peers and clients for his deep knowledge of financial markets and is credited with being able to find clever and unique strategies and investment opportunities. James’ tenure at BMO has also allowed him to develop a tight network of trusted partners from within BMO Financial Group who he can leverage to provide clients a simple one-stop-shop approach to their personal and commercial needs.

James currently holds the highly coveted Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA) and is also a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI), the highest honour in the Canadian financial services industry. He is also licensed to advise on options strategies as well as life insurance.

In his spare time, James can usually be found with his spouse and his children, who like to ensure he is always kept very busy. James is also an avid reader, wine collector, and skier.
