Dilk Dhanapala, BA (Econ), CFP, FCSI, CIM

Senior Investment Advisor & Portfolio Manager

Dilk Dhanapala is dedicated to provide highly personalized wealth management solutions to a select group of individuals, families and corporations who are faced with the complexities of wealth. Dilk and his team utilize their vast technical knowledge to create practical and actionable strategies that provide simplicity to their clients' complex situations.    

Dilk graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, Canada) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, and holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®), CERTIFIED INVESTMENT MANAGER (CIM) designations and is a FELLOW OF CANADAIN SECURITIES INSTITUTE (FCSI). He has been providing financial, investment, insurance, trust and estate planning advice to families, professionals, and business owners since 1995. Dilk has also completed the Derivatives Fundamentals and Options exams through the Canadian Securities Institute and is a licensed options trader.

When he is not working with his clients, Dilk can often been found out hiking around Southern Ontario with his wife Fiona and their family bernedoodle Layla. Dilk is a Board Director for the Art Gallery of Hamilton and enjoys the creative aspect of the gallery. Having spent a significant part of his life in England, Dilk is a lifelong soccer fan of Liverpool FC. His passion for the game translated into a love of coaching at various youth levels spreading close to two decades. Though his coaching days seem to be behind him, the time spent nurturing talent behind the bench has taught him valuable lessons that translate into his work with clients. He believes setting clear realistic goals and having a disciplined approach to achieving them makes everything is possible.

Anca Angelescu, CFP

Investment Advisor and Financial Planner

Anca is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®) who specializes in helping high net worth families, business owners, and professionals reach their financial goals. With more than 7 years of experience, Anca has been repeatedly ranked amongst the best planners at Bank of Montreal, being the recipient of the Conference of the Stars Award.
 
Prior to coming to Canada in 2013, Anca achieved a bachelor’s degree in Law from the Police Academy in Romania. After graduating top in her class, Anca worked for Ministry of Internal Affairs helping to mitigate organized crime. Anca’s life experience, creative approach, and keen attention to detail allows her clients to feel confident that all their options have been explored. 
 
In her free time, Anca is an avid theatre-goer who enjoys exploring the outdoors and discovering new food combinations with her husband Laurian and their son Sebastian.

Gabriel Wootten

Client Service Assistant

Gabriel is a recent graduate of Queens University having completed an Economic Degree. Gabriel‘s passion for financial markets encouraged him to write a weekly blog on market themes and macroeconomic trends. Gabriel’s analytic skills and his passion for the investment industry will be a big asset as he helps us provide quality investment advice and research to our clients.

Gabriel is a Waterloo native and has been an active member of the community. He spent 9 years being part of the Waterloo United Soccer team playing at competitive level. During his free time he enjoys reading and staying actively fit.

We are excited Gabriel joined our advisory team to pursue a journey of growth and be our first point of contact to our clients.

Tea Pupica

Senior Wealth Planning Consultant, BMO Private Wealth

Tea is a member of BMO high wealth planning team and works with our in-house Tax and Estate professionals to develop effective wealth management plans.

Prior to joining BMO Private Wealth in 2022, Tea spent close to 15 years in public practice, many of which were in senior tax roles in national accounting firms. As a result of this experience, Tea brings extensive knowledge in personal, corporate and trust areas of taxation. She has also executed innumerable corporate reorganizations, purchase and sale transactions, business exit strategies and compliance filings. Tea’s other experience also includes lecturing undergraduate courses at Wilfrid Laurier University and donating her time to various organizations and Boards of Directors, including Lisaard and Innisfree House and Waterloo United Soccer Club.

Vice President, Business Advisory & Transition Planning

Prior to joining BMO Private Wealth in 2018, Adam worked for KPMG Corporate Finance Group, advising private company owners across multiple industries, with business enterprise values ranging from $3 million to +$100 million, on divestitures, acquisitions, due diligence, projections/financial modeling, and business valuations for multiple purposes. Other areas of experience include corporate restructuring and insolvency, financing, financial modeling & projections and corporate audits. Adam’s goal is to develop rapport with clients through open communication, trust and exceptional service. Leaning on his diverse background and experience, Adam provides guidance to private business owners and families throughout Ontario in the areas of business succession, transition, growth through acquisitions, sell-side M&A, and valuations for the purposes of wealth planning and exit planning.

Leigh Vyn, CPA, CA, CFP, FEA

Director, Tax Planning

Leigh is a Director of Tax Planning at BMO Private Wealth. With over twenty years of experience, Leigh understands the broad issues that wealthy families face. By taking the time to understand client’s specific goals and objectives, she brings her extensive subject matter expertise to help guide families through the unique opportunities and challenges that they may be facing in the areas of tax and estate planning, corporate structuring, business succession planning, and family governance.
Leigh can skillfully take complex tax and estate issues, and speak to clients about these in a way that they can easily understand.  In addition to her accounting background, she has extensive experience in the investment industry, including working at a multi-family office where she led a diverse team. For four years, Leigh co-authored the book “Tax Tips for Canadians for Dummies”.
When not at work, Leigh and husband, Dave manage a busy house with two teenagers. She enjoys running and hiking the many trails Ancaster offers.

Karen Sparks, MBA, CFP, TEP

Karen advises high net worth families and business owners on comprehensive wealth planning solutions, as part of an integrated team of Wealth Consultants and in-house technical specialists. Drawing on extensive financial product expertise and planning acumen, Karen helps clients articulate and understand their unique objectives for accumulated wealth. A skilled listener, she acts as a value-add resource for wealth management professionals and their clients, ultimately providing a blueprint from which to execute a customized – and optimized – wealth plan.

 

Karen joined BMO Wealth Management in 2011, following progressively senior roles in the financial services industry, specializing in wealth planning, marketing and communications, and business development. In her previous role, she worked as a Vice President for a private investment counsel firm where she provided high net worth clients with comprehensive wealth planning and investment counselling services.

Stuart Clark, M.Tax, TEP

Estate & Insurance Advisor

Stuart is a specialist at insurance-based wealth and estate planning strategies with a focus to service the high net worth and ultra-high net worth clientele of BMO Private Banking and BMO Nesbitt Burns. His objective is to help families and businesses transfer wealth in an efficient and tax advantaged manner. As a member of the BMO Wealth Management team, he integrates wealth planning strategies that minimize the impact of taxation to you now and to your estate in the future.

Prior to joining BMO Estate Insurance Advisory Services, Stuart worked with BMO Private Banking as a Specialized Planner – Tax to integrate comprehensive tax and wealth plans to enrich the financial success of BMO Private Banking clientele. He also acted as a consultant and instructor to financial advisors with one of Canada’s largest life insurance companies, and provided specialized taxation service with two of Canada’s large accounting firms and the Canada Revenue Agency.

Linda Leung, CPA, TEP

Director, U.S. Tax Planning

Linda advises high net worth business owners and professionals on how to efficiently structure their U.S. and Canadian assets, providing specialized tax solutions as part of an integrated wealth planning team. Drawing on 25 years of leadership within the cross-border field, Linda’s clients benefit from in-depth technical expertise, facilitating high-level planning discussions, while addressing a wide range of situations across U.S. income and estate tax, and Canadian income tax considerations.

Linda joined BMO Wealth Management in 2010, following 10 years of leading a global tax team at a large consulting firm, where she specialized in individual tax considerations with regards to employees relocating permanently or temporarily from/to U.S. and Canada. Previously, she was a Tax Manager in the Small Business and International Assignment Services groups at PricewaterhouseCoopers, a large international accounting firm.

Chris Markou, LL.B, BA (Hons)

Director, Estate Planning

Chris advises high net worth individuals and families on specialized Estate & Trust solutions as part of an integrated wealth planning team.

Chris draws on his prior experience as an estates lawyer in private practice to assist BMO clients with complex estate and trust planning solutions in a variety of contexts. He provides support and direction on matters related to estate, gift and tax planning, succession planning for business owners, charitable giving and planning for family members with special needs.

Prior to joining BMO Wealth Management, Chris operated his own law firm, worked as in-house counsel with an insurance company, and worked in the estates and real estate groups in one of the largest and oldest law firms in Brampton, Ontario. Chris has been actively involved in the community as a member of numerous boards and committees, and has chaired and presented at several programs for the Ontario Bar Association.

Jillian Berry, JD

Senior Trust Officer and Director

Jillian is a member of the BMO Trust team and provides ongoing support and guidance to help clients manage and transition their wealth. Prior to joining BMO Trust, Jillian practiced as a lawyer specializing in estate planning and administration and, as a result, is able to draw on her experience and knowledge to assist clients in matters of asset management through BMO’s Encircle/Continuity program and Power of Attorney appointments as well as manage the day to day administration of large Estates and Trusts.
