Carlos Peguero, BBA (Hons), CFP

Investment Advisor & Financial Planner

My financial career really began at age 18 when my grandmother passed away suddenly. She had organized and pre-paid for her own funeral, which surprised me because our Latin culture usually avoids estate planning because no one likes talking about death. My grandmother’s proactive planning was a tremendous gift to our family – it saved us from making stressful decisions in our time of grief. This sparked my love for financial planning, which was her valuable legacy to me. To this day, I like to plan ahead to face difficult decisions before crisis strikes and embrace my grandmother’s values of discipline, honesty, courage and wisdom.

I started university in the Dominican Republic at age 15, finishing by age 20. At a very young age, I worked at the Cibao Association Savings and Loans Bank (Asociacion Cibao de Ahorros y Prestamos). The bank trained me to become a Branch Manager. After managing deposits and the banking division and nurturing relationships with affluent clients, I was promoted to Vice President of the main branch and also had other branches reporting to me. This experience gave me a deep understanding of banking and bespoke private banking.

While earning my Master of Strategy and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (Mother and Teacher Pontifical Catholic University), I moved to a support role at the bank, building policies and procedures. I moved to Canada and worked with RBC as a Financial Planner and Relationship Manager for more than 14 years before joining BMO Private Wealth in 2022. I respect the way this bank very closely integrates wealth planning with investing, which really are two sides of the wealth coin. I hold the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation and a strong technical background.

My personal priority is spending time with my wife Elba and our children Ethan and Camilla. I also love mountain biking with my son, playing baseball, following the Formula 1 races, and pursuing my passion for cars.
