Ross W. McCrady, Senior Vice President, Senior Investment Advisor

Ross began his life in the investment business in February 1969, 45 years ago. He started in the back office of Edmonton’s Richardson Securities on Jasper Avenue, now the home of the Union Bank Inn. He started at the top, as the head of the mailroom. His first two years were spent in a variety of back office functions and assisting the brokers. By 1971, he was assisting the Institutional Equity Salesmen, and took over that roll in 1972. In 1973, he was hired by Dominion Securities to go to Vancouver as a money market trader and was sent to Toronto for training. While in Toronto, Dominion Securities bought Harris Partners, a fixed income specialty house, and so he was released on a Friday. By Monday, he had been hired by Merrill Lynch Royal Securities to fulfill that same roll in Vancouver. While in Vancouver his money market roll was expanding to cover some Vancouver institutions in the sale of equities.

In 1975 he was asked by Pitfield McKay Ross to come back to Edmonton. Alberta Energy had just gone public and the Province of Alberta had recently started the Heritage Fund. They wanted to have a money market/fixed income/equity desk. This would also include coverage of some Saskatchewan institutions. In 1974 Dominion Securities bought Pitfield’s. In 1975 Nesbitt Thomson Bongard hired Ross to cover the Edmonton institutional market. Time and many incarnations for Nesbitt Burns led Ross to hire Sean Rourke, and together they began a business focused on high net worth families, and small institutions in the area.
