BMO Nesbitt Burns Advance Program®

The BMO Nesbitt Burns Advance Program offers a highly individualized approach to establishing and maintaining an appropriate investment strategy and portfolio. The Advance Program achieves this by calling on the personal services of Jim Struthers and on the expertise of leading investment managers from around the world. Until recently, the services of these managers have been beyond the reach of most individual investors. Available to investors with a minimum account size of CAN $150 000 or USD $100 000, the Advance Program will appeal to the investor concerned about flexibility, comprehensive reporting, and performance.

As your Investment Advisor, one of my main roles is to continuously monitor your portfolio and offer solutions that may be of benefit to you. One such solution that is frequently implemented at year-end is known as tax loss selling which involves directing your money manager to either realize a specific dollar amount in losses or to sell individual securities that best fit your specific tax requirements. This strategy may allow us to reduce your current tax bill or allow you to recover taxes previously paid.

As part of the Advance Program you will receive your regular monthly statement. In addition, every three months, you will receive a comprehensive Quarterly Review which assesses the current allocation of assets in your portfolio, analyzes its performance and provides comparisons with relevant benchmarks.

At year-end, you will receive a similarly-detailed annual reporting package. This provides a complete review of information required for income tax filing, including deposits and withdrawals, portfolio transactions, realized capital gains and income.

Finally the program is cost effective. It charges a single quarterly fee, in arrears, that covers all professional management services and transaction costs, as well as security custody, administration and reporting services. For non-registered accounts a portion of this fee may be tax deductible making this program generally cheaper than most mutual funds, but clients should seek independent advice on all tax matters.
