John’s areas of expertise include personal tax and corporate tax for private corporations as well as financial and estate planning for high net worth individuals, executives and entrepreneurs.
Before joining BMO Nesbitt Burns, John was employed by a large, international accounting firm as a senior member of the Toronto High Net Worth tax practice. John has also assisted in the design and execution of executive compensation plans and has experience in a wide range of planning scenarios involving the taxation of individuals, corporations, trusts and partnerships. John is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP). He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) from Queen’s University.
Darren Knott, CFP, CLU, CH.F.C
Estate and Insurance Planning
Darren graduated from the University of Guelph with a BA in Economics and entered the financial industry in 1987 with Mutual Life of Canada. He went on to obtain the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (CH.F.C.) designations. Darren joined the BMO Nesbitt Burns Estate and Insurance Planning team in September of 2015 after spending the last 14 years with CIBC Wood Gundy. Darren served on the Board of Directors for three years with The Learning Disabilities Association of London-Middlesex as well as with ADVOCIS on London's Board of Directors for eight years including a one year tenure in the role of President.
John M. Paniccia, CPA, CA, CBV
Business Advisory & Succession Planning - Central Canada
John is an experienced business advisor and brings a broad base of technical and business planning experience to BMO Wealth Management. John offers individuals and business owners expertise in business succession, transition, sale, M&A, insurance and valuations for the purposes of wealth planning and transfer.
John has over 15 years of experience primarily in the Big 4 professional services firms, as well as experience in a family owned private business. Within professional practice, John has lead a significant number of complex business valuations and business advisory engagements for private and public companies involved in a variety of industries in connection with M&A, corporate reorganizations & income tax planning, shareholder disputes, corporate finance activities, as well as succession, tax & estate planning for private business owners.
John holds an Honours Degree in Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University, and is a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) and a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV).
Chris Markou, LL.B, B.A. (Hons)
Senior Manager, Trusts and Estates - Central
As Senior Manager, Trusts and Estates in the Wealth Management Group, Chris provides guidance to BMO Nesbitt Burns Wealth Management Consultants and Investment Advisors with respect to estate and trust matters, including assistance in developing comprehensive estate plans and with the administration of estates.
Prior to joining BMO Nesbitt Burns, Chris operated his own law firm, worked as in-house counsel with an insurance company, and worked in the estates and real estate groups in one of the largest and oldest law firms in Brampton, Ontario. He provides support and direction on complex issues related to estate, gift and tax planning, succession planning for business owners, charitable giving and planning for family members with special needs.
Chris has been actively involved in the community as a member of numerous boards and committees, and has chaired and presented at several programs for the Ontario Bar Association.
Linda Leung, CPA, TEP
Director, US Tax Planning
Linda is responsible for providing Investment Advisors and their clients with Canadian and US tax planning support. Before joining BMO Nesbitt Burns, Linda was a member of a global tax team at a large consulting firm where she assisted individuals in understanding the Canadian, US and international tax implications of their various forms of compensation. Prior to that, she was employed by a large, international accounting firm in their International Assignment Services and Small Business tax groups.
Linda has expertise in US personal tax matters and can provide guidance on cross-border personal income tax issues. In her previous role, Linda was also involved in the design and execution of global executive compensation and share plans.
Linda is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP).
Georgia Weaver, BA, CFP
Wealth Management Consultant
As a member of the Wealth Management Consulting team, Georgia works directly with Advisors in the South West Ontario Region who want to position themselves as their clients’ CFO by helping them identify and address the needs and goals of their high net worth clientele. Georgia brings together the knowledge and experience of our in-house tax and estate professionals and works with Advisors and their clients to develop sound wealth management plans.
She provides Advisor support and direction about complex issues such as retirement and distribution planning, tax planning, cash management, estate and gift planning, transition planning and charitable giving. Georgia has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. Before joining BMO Nesbitt Burns, she worked for a major investment firm where she provided clients with financial planning, investment and insurance advice. Georgia holds a business degree BA in Economics and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation. She is also Life Insurance Licensed and working towards her TEP designation.
