As we leave the summer behind, we have seen rather lighter volumes of trading and therefore a lack of conviction by investors, even as we reach all time highs in the markets. At this time of year, the portfolio managers and the bigger institutions also begin to return to their desks and take back control of the markets from the smaller investors. This leads to the typical seasonal rise in volatility in the fall, and the need for caution.
