Kyle Hetherington

Kyle Hetherington, BA (Hons), JD

Investment Advisor

Kyle Hetherington leads The Hetherington Group at BMO Private Wealth in Toronto, which works closely with a collaborative team of specialists and banking partners to deliver complete, integrated wealth management services. His clients include successful Canadians at all stages of life, and he is well positioned to advise lawyers and other incorporated professionals such as doctors, commercial realtors and business owners.

Prior to joining BMO Private Wealth to advocate for investors, Kyle advocated for people in court as a criminal defence attorney. In 2014 he founded his own firm, Hetherington Law, where he was a criminal defence litigator for six years. While helping individuals strategically navigate their high-profile criminal cases through the judicial system and building a successful legal practice, Kyle managed his own investment portfolio. He developed a love for the markets and recognized that few lawyers had proper wealth management. Kyle realized that his true passion was helping individuals and their families to maneuver in the complex financial landscape and enrich their lives through proper wealth planning. He naturally transitioned to an advisory practice, which calls for the same disciplined, strategic advocacy he learned as a lawyer.

Kyle holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University and his Juris Doctor degree from Bond University Law School in Australia. He has served on the board of De La Salle College “Oaklands” since 2017 and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association and the Sans Souci and Copperhead Cottagers’ Association on Georgian Bay. Kyle has participated in the BMO Walk So Kids Can Talk 5K and is involved in ongoing United Way sponsorship and fundraising.

Kyle leads an active lifestyle in and around the GTA through hockey, golf and cycling. A devoted dog lover, Kyle also stays fit walking his Spangold Retriever, Bowie. He and his new wife Carly are avid cottagers. They enjoy attending live music performances, entertaining, and exploring Toronto’s culinary scene with friends and clients. Kyle is a very family-oriented individual whose three nephews are like sons to him; he and Carly look forward to having their own family one day. After travelling extensively to Southeast Asia and South America and studying law in Australia, Kyle is a citizen of the world who is always up for an opportunity to explore different cultural adventures.
