What Region is Winning
Igor Manukhov - Oct 11, 2024
2024 was all about US stocks so far.
As markets continue to rise in 2024, it is a good idea to see how different parts of the world have been performing on relative basis. Below is a similar bar chart to the one I used last week; except this time I am comparing different regions.
I am comparing the following:
• VFV – US stocks (S&P500)
• XIC – Canadian stocks (TSX)
• XFH - International stocks in developed markets (EAFE, stands for Europe, Australia, Far East)
• XEC – Emerging market stocks
I am comparing performance of Canadian, international, and emerging market stocks to the US stock market. The colour coding is as follows with the most recent readings are on the right and past readings are on the left:
• Blue and aqua bars indicate periods of outperformance relative to the S&P500
• Light purple and purple bars indicate periods of underperformance relative to the S&P500
• Orange bars indicate periods of neutral performance relative to the S&P500
Based on the information below, the US is still outperforming other regions on a longer-term basis.
